FDR/UPSTREAM is a powerful and multifunctional storage management system for centralized, automated, unattended backup/restore. It enables data transfer from PC and UNIX systems to mainframe server tapes and DASDs. It is also effective as means of recovery when disasters strike.
Speed
FDR/UPSTREAM uses SNA/APPC or TCP/IP to achieve the highest level of speed, even among existing mainframe communication software, thanks to its unique and efficient architecture. It enables fast file transfers, even on slow links, by means of selectable compression levels, a proprietary merge feature, duplicate file control, and other such functionality.
When using EMC’s Symmetrix-ESP environment in combination with FDRSOS (FDR/UPSTREAM/SOS), data transfers over fast channels, such as SCSI and ESCON, are possible without going over the network, enabling even faster processing and leveraging the power for mass data backups, including databases.
Database and ERP Support
Since FDR/UPSTREAM comes with an Oracle database and R/3 (SAP) support functionality, you can easily build a safe and reliable backup/recovery system that is conscious of applications. In particular, it is highly rated as officially certified software for SAP R/3.
Fast and Efficient Data Transfers
FDR/UPSTREAM comes with advanced technology that minimizes the amount of data sent over the network, including full-merge backup that dramatically shortens the time required for full backups, automatic duplication file support, compression, and local backup. Local backup volumes further shorten backup processing time by using EMC’s Symmetrix-ESP environment and FDR/UPSTREAM/SOS as pass-through volumes.
Flexible Operation/Fully Automated
FDR/UPSTREAM delivers security and tape management under an MVS along with fully unattended automatic operation by using a scheduling system that can be controlled from both an MVS and open system. Furthermore, multiple simultaneous backups and restores can be performed while controlling FDR/UPSTREAM clients.
