For the success of your business. Enterprise System Management Solution

ACS (Allocation Control System)DTS Software, LLC.

Are your rules on operating standards being observed?
ACS places datasets where they are best suited and standardizes operating standards.

ACS enforces thorough operating standards and maintains an appropriate operational framework by intercepting a variety of dataset allocation requests from the operating system. It also reduces troublesome storage management from conventional volume management by managing by means of pools (volume groups) that are comprised of multiple volumes.

Effect of Introducing ACS

Dynamic modification of JCL
Enhanced security
Volume pooling
This leads to:

Maintenance of operating standards
Tracking/reporting of violation information
Effective disk utilization
Decreased workload on system personnel

Maintenance of Operating Standards

  1. (1) Management of access from development system to live environment
    • Messages are issued when there is an access violation on a live dataset or volume.
    • Invalid access requests to a live dataset or volume are denied.
    • Invalid access to a live dataset or volume is modified to the proper location etc.
  2. (2) Dynamic modification of JCL of jobs that violate operating standards
    • Space values are modified to proper values.
    • Allocation destinations are forcibly modified.
    • Cluster definitions are modified.
    • The content of parameter definitions are checked etc.
  3. (3) Enhanced file security (protection of data for specific business)
    • Job allocation is controlled by user ID/dataset name.
    • Volume allocation is controlled by job name.
    • Unit names of allocation destinations are automatically modified.
    • Execution of jobs with no VOLSER designation is controlled.
    • Access on parallel system environments is controlled.

Decreased Workload for System Administrators

  1. (1) Management using pools (volume groups) in volumes
  2. (2) Disk status management, utilization, fragmentation state, performance status etc. in volumes or pools
  3. (3) Flexible selection of allocation destinations by proprietary algorithms that is not dependant on the OS
  • MAXSPACE algorithm: Selects the volume that has the most available space.
  • RESPTIME algorithm: Selects the volume with the shortest response time.
  • FRAGINDX algorithm: Selects the volume with the least fragmentation.
  • SRM algorithm: Selects a volume that is dependant on the OS etc.

Issuing of Reports for Storage Management

  1. (1) Reports on disk information by ACS monitor
  2. (2) Reports on tracking management for violation status
  3. (3) Description of SMF records

ACSVSAM Option

This option selects the volume of the VSAM allocation request defined by JCL under an IBM MVS environment. The ACSVSAM option modifies the parameter information of all VSAM requests defined by JCL.
